This is what happened between the day I decided what university to apply for and....yesterday.
[December 2014] Before deciding which university to apply to for this exchange, I had to look at the outstanding requirements that I had left. I knew that the semester I came back to Hawaii would be my last semester which means enrolling in BUS 345. The prerequisite for this class is the completion of all the business core classes. The only one I hadn't taken yet was BUS 313 so this class led me to my final decision of Yonsei. I checked the course equivalency sheets found at shidler.hawaii.edu/international-exchange and Yonsei actually offered a variety of courses and specifically, BUS 313.
[January 2015] I found that the exchange program was a partnership between UHMIX and Yonsei, so I went to the website: http://manoa.hawaii.edu/mix/outbound_students/index.html to find out more information. When I applied to study abroad through MIX (Manoa International Exchange), I filled out the application and it asked me to list my top three choices. I was set on Yonsei University, but I was open to other universities such as National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The priority deadline for Summer and Fall applicants was Feb. 1 (to increase my chances of getting my first pick). When I applied, I also had to provide supporting documents and set up an advising appointment to talk with one of the directors (Sara Otis).
[February 2015] After applying and talking to Sara, I found out the next step which would be to apply for scholarships. I think it's very important to start early because different scholarships will require more time (to write essays) and it was harder for me since I had school, work, and I was involved with clubs. I would highly recommend asking Sara or any MIX advisor for critique on your essays because they are accustomed to the requirements and looking for key points from these essays. Investing time into writing excellent essays will help you receive more funding for your exchange. :)
[March 2015] MIX notified me that I got my first choice! Following this would be to fill out the online application and profile that Yonsei has for their international students. Concurrent to all of these activities, I stayed involved in multiple clubs. It's always good to talk to different people because it's highly likely that either they have studied abroad or they know someone who has (since Hawaii is pretty tiny).
[April 2015] When applying through MIX and for the Freeman Scholarship, I had to fill out a budget sheet. I realized that I actually needed to sit and break down my expenses to save enough for this trip. Excel is such a handy tool, you can color code things and make tables, anything you want. Going forward from that budget sheet, I set a goal as to how much to set aside from my summer internship. (Presently, I have saved 3/4 of my goal.)
[May - June 2015] ACCEPTANCE. YES. VISA. YES. INSURANCE. YES. HOUSING. YES. REGISTRATION.....................When the courses came out on Yonsei's website, the class I needed was only offered in the Spring term. After a period of stress, I knew I had to find a class that I could petition in order to fulfill the requirement. I'll dedicate a paragraph for petitioning after I explain my current status for registration. A few days ago, I received a notification from the contact for international exchange students saying that they were still working on registration logins, so after I get that information, I should be able to register and provide more insight on this process.
Petition: In order to petition for the class(es), you need to fill out and submit the form(s) and submit the syllabus(i) to obtain departmental approval. As long as the syllabus contains the main points such as the objectives of the course and the grading/testing policies, then it should be sufficient. Hopefully, my petition gets approved!

I know I should have blogged all of this before yesterday, but.....think of this as the prequel like X-Men First Class....or not.
