Games
On Friday, there were three sports scheduled: Baseball, Basketball, and Ice Hockey. Baseball was scheduled at the Jamsil stadium. The times for basketball and ice hockey overlapped and there were also a specified number of tickets available. Between basketball and ice hockey, we picked ice hockey because we heard that Yonsei's ice hockey team is always good and it would be our first time watching ice hockey! In order to get a ticket, they set a date and times for pick-up, so keep checking e-mails to sign up to pick up a ticket (this way you can guarantee a ticket to either basketball or ice hockey), then line up at least an hour before they pass out tickets at the Global Lounge (where the international students can go to find out about clubs/organizations and events).
Transportation
It's important to check e-mails because they sent us information and updates on the schedules of the games along with bus schedules that could transport you to the stadiums, since there were two different ones, there was an option to take this shuttle bus or subway there on our own. The bus would take us there but not back home, so as long as you understand the subway system, you're good!
Cheering
The best part of these events is the spirit that all the students have for supporting their teams. While the teams play, there is constant dancing and singing, it never ends. They had a 5 hour practice set up for the international students to learn the cheers, but I didn't know about it until after. It would have been better if I knew the cheers prior...but the other students were willing to teach you. Once you learn it, you just repeat it! Honestly, this was a great bonding experience to get close to the Korean students and the international students.
MY EXPERIENCE
Yonkojeon was really long, but probably something I will never forget. The amount of enthusiasm from both schools filled the stadiums and it was something I had never experienced before. The crowds are always singing and cheering for their schools. After the games, Yonsei and Korea University students actually came together at Sinchon to celebrate! It seemed like they didn't even care about the victory; everyone was there to have fun. There was a train of people from both universities that would stop by different restaurants and dance and cheer to ask for free food and drinks! It was a crazy. fun. night.
